Lasers have become valuable tools for plastic surgeons in treating numerous conditions such as skin wrinkles, certain types of scars, vascular deformities, and unwanted body hair. Prior to the use of this technology, many of these conditions were difficult to treat effectively and had less than desirable results. An acronym for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation," the laser concentrates its finely tuned energy source in a variety of wavelengths to produce specific reactions in treatment. The lasers most commonly used by plastic surgeons including this practice are the CO2, Erbium, Nd:Yag, and Alexandrite.

• Lamellar Peel developed by Dr. Bruce Freedman and staff at Plastic Surgery Associates of Northern Virginia to bridge the gap between deep laser resurfacing and non-ablative remodeling for facial rejuvenation.
