Liposuction
Back
Liposuction,
or liposculpting, can be used to remove fatty deposits from virtually
all parts of the body. Liposuction removes unwanted fat to resculpt
areas that seem out of proportion, creating a more attractive shape.
In some cases, "large volume" procedures involving greater
than 10,000 cc of material can be accomplished with advances in
surgical techniques to completely remodel a person's body shape.
Process:
A small instrument called a cannula is inserted through tiny incisions,
usually hidden in natural skin creases, to remove the fatty material.
Using a high-pressured vacuum, fat cells are extracted through this
tube-like cannula.
Recovery:
During recovery, your body contour will improve and the bruising,
swelling and fluid retention will subside. A snug-fitting garment
will need to be worn on the treated areas for several weeks to aid
in healing. Most people return to work and normal routines within
a week. Activity and exercise gradually can be increased with most
patients returning to their previous levels of exercise within three
to four weeks.
Results:
Overall, this procedure has relatively quick recovery time and exceptional
results. Stretch marks and some dimples in your skin may remain
unchanged after liposuction. Optimal results may take several months
to achieve; this differs from patient to patient depending on areas
treated and amounts of fat removed. Since our bodies do not make
new fat cells after we reach puberty, your new body shape should
remain with a sensible diet and exercise regimen.
