Mini
abdominoplasty
Back
A
mini-abdominoplasty is ideal for those individuals who have excessive
body fat limited to the lower abdomen that cannot be corrected by
suctioning alone. Most patients are currently at their ideal body
weight, but have weak abdominal muscles that contribute to the protruding
lower abdomen. The procedure can be performed in our office operating
room suite or at the hospital on an outpatient basis. Mini-abdominoplasty
can be safely combined with other contouring procedures such as
liposuction of the thighs or with breast lifts or enhancements.
Process:
In a mini-abdominoplasy, a curvilinear incision approximately 14-18cm
will be made in pubic hairline. The "belly-button" is not detached
from the skin in this technique, and most incisions can be hidden
in the lines of a bikini or underwear. Excessive skin and fat are
removed and permanent sutures are placed to tighten the muscles
of the abdominal wall. In some cases, liposuction of the hips and
area around the navel is performed concurrently to assist in the
recontouring process. This will depend on each individual's body
type and shape. When utilized, this component will not change the
healing time and process. A small suction drain may be inserted
to eliminate fluid buildup. If used, they are easily be removed
by Dr. Freedman several days post-operatively.
Recovery:
For the first three weeks after surgery, an elastic abdominal support
garmet is worn to aid in the healing process. Oral medications control
postoperative discomfort. Dr. Freedman removes sutures at our office
in approximately 1-2 weeks. Most patients are back to work within
one week and normal activities can be resumed within 3 to 4 weeks.
Results:
Patients who undergo a mini-abdominoplasty enjoy a flatter abdomen
to compliment the rest of their appearance. Their clothes fit more
comfortably and their physical confidence often increases.
