Breast Augmentation
Back
For
patients who want to increase breast size and enhance breast shape,
we recommend augmentation using breast implants. Implants come in
many sizes and shapes. Breast implants are not "one size fits
all," so your anatomy and aspirations are critical factors
when selecting an implant. Our goal is to provide you with the most
comprehensive information and medical advice to meet your aesthetic
needs.
Process:
A breast implant is a silicone shell filled with either saline (salt-water)
or Silicone gel. Silicone gel implants are also called Cohesive
Gel or “gummy bear” implants. Implants may be placed
either above or underneath the muscle. Desired implant placement
will vary based on the patient’s body type, the implant used
and the patient’s desired outcome. Implant placement should
be a decision made jointly by the patient and the Surgeon. To insert
the implant, the surgeon makes an incision in the nipple area or
under the breast crease. The implant is then placed in the desired
location, if a Saline implant is used it is then filled with sterile
saline to the desired size. Final fill volume of a saline implant
will sometimes vary from side to side in an effort to correct volume
discrepancies.
Recovery:
Soreness and fatigue are common for a few days after surgery, but
most patients return to work in about 3 to 5 days. There is some
swelling in the breasts that can last for a few weeks while your
body recovers. You can usually go back to normal activities and
exercise within 3 to 4 weeks. The scars in the areola will be slightly
firm and pink in color for a few weeks but will begin to fade in
a few months.
Results:
Our patients report both physical and emotional improvements following
breast augmentation. From greater self-confidence to a well-proportioned
body, the results are visible and invigorating. In a national survey
by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, women who had breast
augmentation surgery report a 94% satisfaction rating.
To
continue looking your best following breast surgery, we recommend
that you wait approximately 6 weeks after your surgery before buying
new bras. We have found that a professional fitting is beneficial
to determine the appropriate chest and cup size. The experts at
