Facial Implants

Facial
Implants are utilized to improve the overall balance to the face
and it's features. They are used to enhance the cheekbones, strengthen
the jawline, or bring out the chin. Generally, the implants are
made from hard silicone, and there is no scientific evidence that
this is a harmful substance. Facial implants are often used in conjunction
to other operations to enhance the outcome. For instance, cheekbone
implants may be used during a facelift to help restore a more youthful
appearance and chin implants may be used to improve a patient's
profile. Our office offers computerized facial imaging to assess
skeletal balance and relationships. These images can give a person
an "approximate" idea of how they might look following augmentation
of the facial skeleton.
The process:
Dr. Freedman will select the proper size and shape implant to enhance
facial appearance. Depending on the type of facial implantation
surgery, incisions may be made either inside the mouth, in the fold
under the chin, inside the upper lip or under the lower eyelid.
In cases where other surgical procedures are concurrently being
performed, Dr. Freedman may use incisions made for those procedures.
The implant is then inserted and adjusted until the best contour
is achieved
The Recovery:
After surgery, a dressing will be applied to minimize swelling and
discomfort. Oral medication to decrease pain will be prescribed.
There may be dietary restrictions depending on the area of implantation.
These restrictions generally last approximately 2 weeks and most
patients return to normal activities within 3 weeks. Stitches used
to close the incisions inside the mouth usually dissolve in 10 days
and post-operative swelling will continue to diminish over the course
of a month.
